MEET MY CHARACTER BLOG TOUR @KMNbooks @Teresa_Cypher @JacquieRogers @JMStewartWriter @StephBurkhart @KarysaFaire

I owe many thanks to fabulous writer Teresa Cypher for including me in this fun blog tour.
First I’d like to introduce you lovely readers to Teresa then will move on to my character Darrien.

Teresa Cypher pens wonderful heartwarming science fiction tales, and I’ve enjoyed all her snippets via Weekend Writing Warriors.

Her bio on her blog reads:
If you could peer far enough into the night sky, you'd see a star in any direction you looked. When would you sleep?

Never! There is a story basking in the light of each every one of those stars...some are sad, some are happy, and all are beautiful... full of love and all the human trappings that love carries. Someone must write down their stories...who better, I ask than a writer of dreamers, lovers, and star voyagers?

So very true, Teresa. :) Thanks for inviting me to participate in the blog hop!

Now let's meet the Character from my WIP, The Gryphon and His Thief by Karen Michelle Nutt

What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
Darrien from the Gyphon Tribe of Andros. He’s a fictional character in a modern day setting though he is centuries old.

When and where is the story set?
The book takes place in Arizona, present time though we have a few flashbacks to ancient times in Andros.

What should we know about him/her?
He’s been alive for centuries and is a Gryphon Shifter cursed to guard the Museum of Cursed Antiquities. He can rip a thief to shreds and will if he must to keep the artifacts from falling into the wrong hands.

What messes up his/her life?

His curse messes up his life. His essence/soul is never whole. In the daytime, he is a nerdy caretaker of a museum, while his alter ego is frozen inside the statue of a Gryphon. His nerdy self is only aware of his life at the museum. The curse makes him forget all else. It’s like each morning he reboots and believes he’s just arrived for his shift.

At night, he is the Gryphon shifter, who guards the items in the museum. The only way he can leave the museum is if an artifact is stolen. His Gryphon side will hunt down the thief and eliminate the threat by any means necessary, before returning the item to the museum.

Neither Nerdy Darrien nor Beastie Darrien are aware of the other persona.

What is the main conflict?
Centuries before, Darrien, a powerful Gryphon shifter, was responsible for guarding the tribes’
treasures, but he failed to protect the greatest treasure of all, his wife Callista.

Isa, a shifter from Darrien’s tribe detested that he married a human so she killed Callista, believing Darrien would turn his affection toward her. However, she hadn’t counted on Callista’s father being so grief-stricken that he cursed Darrien for all eternity, separating his soul. One essence would guard by day, and the other would guard by night.

Centuries pass with no end to his loneliness until Calli Angelis breaks into the museum to steal in artifact. Darrien believes she is his reincarnated wife, Callista, but when she steals a cursed item, the beastie inside of him wants to exact revenge, but his human side wishes to protect her. However, retrieving the stolen item and returning it is the least of his problems. He finds out Isa is back in town and her plans prove as diabolical as they were centuries before. He has a second chance to save the woman he loves, but first he must convince her a danger exists, not an easy task when she fights him at every turn.

What is the personal goal of the character?
To retrieve the necromancer stone the thief has stolen. Break his curse and exact justice to the shifter who killed his wife centuries before, and convince Calli she belongs with him.

Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
The Gryphon and His Thief

Now here are five wonderful writers you should know. Next Monday (8/4), you’ll be able to check out their Meet My Characters posts on their respective blogs:

Jacquie Rogers
Some people are born liars—those people are called writers.  Jacquie Rogers’ motto: any story can be improved with a bit of embellishment.  It must have been the Holsteins' fault.  Yep, that's it.  Too much milking leads to way too much imagination.  She's author of the Hearts of Owyhee series (Mélange Publishing) and several short stories for Prairie Rose Publications and Western Fictioneers.

Joanne Stewart
JM is the author of passionate, heartfelt contemporary romance. She’s a wife, a mother, a spiritualist, and lover of puppies, and happily addicted to coffee and chocolate. She lives in the rainy Pacific Northwest with her husband, two sons, and two very spoiled dogs. She’s a hopeless romantic who believes everybody should have their happily-ever-after and has been devouring romance novels for as long as she can remember. Writing them has become her obsession. For more about JM Stewart and her books, please visit:

Stephanie Burkhart
Stephanie Burkhart was born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. When she was eighteen she joined the US Army for a great adventure. In 1991, she married her husband in Nykobig, Denmark. In 1997, she left the army and in 2000, she was hired by LAPD as a 911 dispatcher. She has a B.S. degree in political science from California Baptist University, Riverside, CA. She loves chocolate, adores coffee, and has published several romance and children's stories with Desert Breeze Publishing, 4RV Publishing, and Victory Tales Press.

Karysa Faire
Karysa is a writer of the romantic, the unseen, the other worldly and the horrific. Residing in Northern California with her daughter, dog, and cat, she reads when she can and cleans her house when she has to.

Tidbit about Necromancy Through the Ages by Karen Michelle Nutt @KMNBooks #giveaway @RebeccaJVickery

Tidbit about Necromancy Through the Ages

Mosaic Law states: If a person was caught practicing Necromancy, they received the death penalty. However, there is always someone who manages to get away with it. King Saul had the Witch of Endor invoke the shade of Samuel from Sheol using a ritual conjuring pit. (Samuel 28:3-25)

The middle ages called the practice of necromancy sorcery, and there were dire consequences if caught.

Some Christian writers firmly believe no human can bring back the spirits of the dead and interpret their thoughts. They believed the shades are demons meant to deceive.

Present Day:
Necromancy is a term used to describe manipulating death through the use of ritual magic or ceremony. You might say séances, channeling and Spiritualism are a form of necromancy since they involve invoking spirits to find out information.

Necromancer’s Tools:
Necromancer rituals can involve magic circles, talisman, and incantations. The Necromancer might use items associated with death such as wearing the decease’s clothes.  Another more morbid ritual was the Necromancer consumed a part of the corpse. The rituals could last hours to days just depending on how stubborn the spirit could be.

In my tale, Soul Taker, Isabella Lucci’s family is from a long line of Necromancers. Isabella has not been trained, but she’s a natural. She can see the world beyond the veil, summon a shade and send a soul back through the veil. It is why Harrison wants to recruit her to help him and Garran take down the Soul Taker.

Her tools of the trade:
She uses a cell phone to communicate with the dead. The shades text their responses via the cell phone.

Thank you for stopping by for the behind the scenes look at Soul Taker. Don’t forget to check out the other posts and leave a comment at each blog for more chances to win an Audio Book copy of Soul Taker.
Excerpt from SOUL TAKER: Isabella casts the souls into the veil...

Isabella stood out of the way and was glad to have been forgotten for the moment. She concentrated on the vampires, who were attacking them and recited the incantation from her mother's book. She understood most of the Latin words. It was the first thing Uncle Sebastian had taught her when he hoped to train her, but it wasn't until a few years ago, she had taken an interest to refine what she learned from him. "… libera nos a malo." Deliver us from evil. These vampires were evil. She could see their auras, dark and muddied with deeds they had done.
"… libera nos a malo." Deliver us from evil.
The air around her grew cold as she spoke, her words frosted on the wind. "Send them back. I give thee their souls."
The vampire who attacked Katie howled in pain and it had nothing to do with his damaged leg or the beating he was taking from Katie. Katie scrambled back, fear and confusion lighting her features. The vampire clutched his chest as he fell to his knees.
Isabella chanted louder.
"Stop!" Mr. Limpy's screams of agony brought all the others to a halt. Their intent to rip each other apart was apparently forgotten for the moment. Harrison shifted back to his human form and stared, his brows furrowing over the bridge of his nose.
Electricity flowed around Isabella and she felt her ponytail lift off her neck. The ritual was working.
"What is she doing to him?" Blondie growled. "Stop her!" he ordered Garran.
"I cannot stop her." She heard Garran tell him. His gaze shifted to her and she caught a look of concern before he hid the emotion.
Isabella wished she could have told Garran he would be safe from the spell. The scroll guaranteeing his protection rested in her bra, close to her heart. She could feel it pulse against her.
Blondie growled and decided to take matters into his own hands. He charged Isabella, but the incantation latched onto him as well. He fell beside his fellow vampire thug, clutching his chest. The lanky-looking vampire took a step toward his comrades, but seeing his buddies were withering in pain, he stayed rooted where he stood, but in the next moment it proved distance wouldn't save him. The spell finally took hold of him, and he joined the others on the road to perdition.
The vampire she had shot lay on the ground now, his body convulsing. His eyes rolled back into his head.
Isabella witnessed the soul leaving his body. The action was something similar to the way a vacuum removed unwanted debris, sucking it up and holding it within its grasp, only the soul was sucked into the veil. With one final scream, the vampire's body stilled.
The other two vamps' souls went at the same time. At that moment, she chanted the closing lines to the ritual. She hadn't been sure what would happen. Loosely translated, the ending of the spell called upon the sun to cleanse the earth.
In the next breath, it became clear. The vampires' bodies burst into flames, sizzling and hissing as if a ray of light shone on them.
As she closed the door to the veil, the last of her energy left her. She collapsed to her knees.
"Izzie," Harrison called to her, but it was Garran who flew to her side and took her in his arms. She blinked and met his slanted Scottish eyes. "I did it."

About the Book Soul Taker:

No soul is safe…

A vampire from the Grim Sith sept is sucking the souls out of young women from the Boston area, but this sinister crime is far worse than a vampire seeking substance. He’s selling the souls to the highest bidder and it seems business is booming.

A vampire, a werewolf, and a Necromancer are a most unlikely team, but Garran, Harrison, and Isabella plan on putting a kink in the dubbed Soul Taker’s plans. It’s personal now. One of their friends has fallen victim to the Soul Taker’s charms, but to stop him from hurting anyone else, their efforts may involve raising the dead.

About the Author:
Karen Michelle Nutt resides in California with her husband, three fascinating children, and houseful of demanding pets. Jack, her Chorkie, is her writing buddy and sits long hours with her at the computer.
When she’s not time traveling, fighting outlaws, or otherworldly creatures, she creates pre-made book covers to order at Gillian’s Book Covers, “Judge Your Book By Its Cover”. You can also check out her published cover art designs at Western Trail Blazer and Rebecca J. Vickery Publishing.
Whether your reading fancy is paranormal, historical or time travel, all her stories capture the rich array of emotions that accompany the most fabulous human phenomena—falling in love.
